Amotekun, other non-state actors apprehend bandits in Oyo

OYO- Thursday, 29 April 2021: Operatives of Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) codenamed Amotekun and other operatives of Oyo State Security Network Agency comprising the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) have arrested 6 bandits during the operatives’ routine patrol in the early of Thursday, 29th April, 2021 along Okeho-Ilua and Okeho - Iseyin Road, Oyo State.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the State Amotekun Commandant, Col. Olayinka Olayanju Rtd., which was gathered by CEOAFRICA.

It was revealed that the bandits were arrested in separate incidents following encounters at 2 illegally mounted road blocks while they were trying to escape arrest.

“They tried to escape from the scene but was given hot pursuit by the operatives as they tried to evade arrest,” Olayanju stated.  

The arrested bandits were identified as Awali Atine, Ibrahim Abu, Shuaib Balau, Ibrahim Musa, Abdullah Masika and Umar Aliu Masika.

“All 6 arrested were of Bororo Fulani ethnic group,’’ he mentioned.

The Amotekun Boss further made known that the bandits whose modus operandi is to pretend as herdsmen in the day and violently robbed innocent passengers on the highways at night were caught with 183 cows, weapons and a total sum of #268, 470.00.

He however noted that “the bandits have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Authority Okeho Divisional HQ alongside the 183 herds, weapons and money found in their possession for further investigation.”

Olayanju, therefore urged those with necessary information that could help law enforcement agencies in their investigation should not hesitate  to report to the nearest police authority for proper investigation.
