The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the public inspection of personal particulars submitted by candidates contesting the 2027 presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives elections will begin in Lagos State on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

The commission said the exercise, which is in compliance with Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022, is aimed at giving members of the public the opportunity to examine the credentials and other documents submitted by candidates vying for elective offices.

The disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Esther Emeh.

According to INEC, the candidates’ documents will be displayed at its Lagos State headquarters in Sabo-Yaba and at Local Government Area offices across the constituencies concerned.

The electoral body explained that the documents, contained in Form EC9, include candidates’ academic qualifications, personal particulars and sworn affidavits submitted through their respective political parties.

“Form EC9 contains the credentials, personal particulars and affidavits submitted by candidates sponsored by political parties,” the commission stated.

INEC urged political parties, candidates, civil society organisations, stakeholders and members of the public to take advantage of the inspection period to scrutinise the documents.

The commission also noted that any individual who identifies false declarations, forged certificates or any other irregularities in a candidate’s submission may challenge such information through the appropriate legal channels in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, INEC said the exercise forms part of its preparations to ensure credible and transparent elections in 2027.

The public display of candidates’ particulars is a statutory requirement under Nigeria’s electoral framework, intended to provide citizens and stakeholders with the opportunity to verify information submitted by political parties before elections.

As preparations for the 2027 general elections continue, the commission has sustained key electoral activities, including candidate documentation, party nominations and voter-related processes. Under Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022, INEC is mandated to make candidates’ personal particulars available for public inspection and allow objections where necessary.
