The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled its National Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, naming former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, as chairman of the council.

The party also named its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as co-chairman, while its vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was appointed co-vice chairman as the party moves to strengthen its campaign structure ahead of the elections.

The announcement, made by the party on Sunday, listed Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, the NDC National Chairman, as vice chairman, while the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, was named council secretary. Mallam Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim was appointed Director-General of the Presidential Campaign.

Other prominent figures on the campaign council include former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, who was listed as a member of the National Campaign Advisory Council; Senator Ovie Omo-Agege; Senator Victor Umeh; Buba Galadima; Yakubu Ochefu; Mahmud Jahun; Moshood Salvador; Mrs Dudu Manuga; Victor Ogene; Muktar Usman; Sidi Abdul; and Babatunde Alli.

The party further announced the establishment of a 40-member National Campaign Advisory Council and the appointment of campaign coordinators across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

As part of the campaign's administrative structure, the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, was named Director of Communication and Media, while retired Major General John Enenche, a former defence spokesperson, was appointed Director of Security and Intelligence.

In a statement published on its official X handle, the party said the National Campaign Council would provide strategic leadership, coordinate campaign activities across the country and mobilise Nigerians in support of its vision for a new, just and prosperous Nigeria.

According to the party, the council would work collectively to deliver a people-centred and issue-based campaign as the NDC prepares to contest the 2027 general elections.

The party also appealed to its members, supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to remain united and focused, stressing the need for collective action in its pursuit of national renewal.

The unveiling of the campaign council signals the NDC's move to consolidate its leadership structure, organise its nationwide mobilisation strategy and position itself for the political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
