Saturday 11th December 2021: The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit, has called for the ban of the Vehicle Inspections Officers and LASTMA men from the road following the death of the schoolchildren.
In a statement on Thursday by its Amir, Mallam Miftahudeen Thanni, the MSSN Lagos made the call while mourning the pupils, the allegedly tortured late Dowen College pupil, Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, and eight kids who died in a vehicle parked in a compound at Jah-Michael area, along Lagos-Badagry Expressway last Saturday.
The statement read in part, “We want to unequivocally state that these are preventable occurrences looking at the circumstances surrounding the tragic incidents claiming the lives of our future leaders.
“This (the crash) dastardly occurrence could have been prevented if law enforcement agents did the needful by enforcing the roadworthiness law by tracking vehicles without break, instead of running after them on roads used by members of the public to the extent that lives of citizens are lost unduly.
“The student leader also suggested the ban of Vehicle Inspection Officers and other law enforcement agents from arresting near schools.”
