Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of Zimbabwe’s late former President Robert Mugabe, has been arrested alongside four other men in connection with an alleged assault case in Harare.

The 29-year-old was among five suspects arrested on Tuesday, November 3, following an investigation into the alleged illegal importation and smuggling of two luxury vehicles into Zimbabwe, according to online news outlet The New Zimbabwe.

The vehicles, identified as a Lamborghini Urus and a Mercedes-Benz, were reportedly seized by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) over suspicions that they were illegally brought into the country.

Police confirmed that Mugabe was arrested alongside Munashe Mubawu, 43; Terrence Johannes Chinyemba, 42; Fredson Peter, 33; and Solomon Pamire, 34.

According to a police statement, the five men were arrested in connection with an assault incident at Brompton Guest Lodge in Harare at about 6:30 p.m. local time on November 3.

The incident reportedly occurred during the seizure operation, with the ZACC confirming that one of its officers was attacked. The commission subsequently alerted the police.

ZACC spokesperson, Simiso Mlevu, said the commission seized the two high-end vehicles over suspicions that they were in Zimbabwe illegally.

Mlevu explained that records showed the Lamborghini Urus entered Zimbabwe in June but was documented as having left the country on July 12. The Mercedes-Benz was also reportedly recorded as having departed for South Africa on October 10.

Bellarmine is the youngest son of Robert Mugabe and his second wife, Grace Mugabe. His father, who died in 2019, ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years before being forced from power in 2017 at the age of 93.

The five suspects are expected to appear in court on November 5 as investigations into the alleged assault and circumstances surrounding the seized vehicles continue.
