The federal high court in Abuja has delayed ruling on an application by Buruji Kashamu, senator representing Ogun east, to stop the Department of State Services (DSS) from extraditing him to the United States to face charges on drug-related offences.
The court said it would like to hear from all respondents on why the restraining order should not be granted to Kashamu.
“It is my view that the court should give the respondents opportunity to show cause why restraining order should not be granted against them,” Okon Abang, the presiding judge, said.
“The court shall give them time to respond, I want to hear from the respondents.”
Respondents in the suit are director-general of DSS, inspector-general of police and Oladikupo Adebutu.
Godswill Mrakpo, counsel to Kashamu, had prayed that the court restrain all the respondents and their agents from arresting and detaining the senator.
Abang adjourned hearing on the case to September 8 to enable the respondents appear in court to state why Buruji should be extradited to the US.
