The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration, signifying the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

In the statement, the minister urged Muslims to uphold the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, which were emphasised during Ramadan.

He also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of the country.

While extending warm wishes to the Muslim faithful for a joyful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, Tunji-Ojo encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and show compassion by reaching out to the less privileged in society.

The statement further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting national unity and ensuring peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
