Suspected political thugs have attacked supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) during a campaign rally in Delta State, leaving several people injured and a vehicle damaged.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday as party supporters gathered at the rally venue to participate in the campaign activities.
The suspected attackers allegedly disrupted the gathering, assaulting some supporters and damaging a vehicle parked near the venue.
A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, captured scenes of confusion as people scampered in different directions to escape the attack.
Some supporters reportedly sustained injuries during the violence, while others allegedly lost their mobile phones and personal belongings in the process of fleeing.
In the footage, an unidentified speaker expressed disappointment over the incident, maintaining that the NDC supporters had attended the rally peacefully and had no intention of engaging in violence.
"We came here to campaign in peace. We did not come to fight anybody. What happened today is not good for democracy," the speaker said.
The incident has sparked concerns over the safety of political supporters and the need to ensure a peaceful environment for political campaigns and other democratic activities.
