Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Thursday evening killed a traditional ruler, the Olukoro of Koro in Ekiti local government area of Kwara State General Segun Aremu (rtd), in his palace and abducted his wife and two others.

Though details of the attack available are still sketchy, the Kwara State Government confirmed the dastardly act of the gunmen in a statement issued on Thursday evening.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye, Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq condemned the killing and vows that the perpetrators will not go unpunished.

He also condoled the people of the Koro community over the murder of their traditional ruler.

The statement reads: “Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has condemned the killing of Olukoro of Koro in Ekiti Local Government, HRH retd General Segun Aremu.

“The monarch was reportedly shot dead in his palace on Thursday night by some unknown gunmen, who also whisked away his wife and two others.

“The governor condemned the development, which he said was reckless, shocking, and abominable.

“He charged the security agencies not to spare any resources to track down the perpetrators, free the spouse and others taken away, and bring them to book.

“We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity. My profound condolences go to the people of Koro. Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always.

The killing of the monarch and the abduction of three persons in Kwara followed killing of two traditional rulers in the nearby Ekiti State earlier in the week.

Some yet-to- be- identified gunmen had also abducted some pupils returning home from their school in Ekiti and demanded for N15 million ransom to free them.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had condemned the killing of the traditional rulers and kidnapping of the pupils.

The President had also directed security operatives to ensure the rescue of the pupils.
