Forum of Nigerian Toxicologists (FONTOX) organizes 2nd Biennial National in grand style (Video & Photos)

Toxicologists, researchers and other stakeholders from all over the world gathered for the 2023, 2nd Biennial National Conference of Forum of Nigerian Toxicologists (FONTOX).

The 2-day National Conference of FONTOX themed: “Tackling Toxicological Issues in the 21st Century,” which was held from 21st-24th November, 2023, at the Zoology Lecture Theatre (ZLT) University of Ibadan.

The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Suleiman Ambali, Professor of Environmental Toxicology, and current Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria.

The conference addressed the following topics;

 Clinical And Translational Toxicology

 Ecotoxicology

 Nanotoxicology

 Risk Assessment

 Environmental Toxicology

 Regulatory Toxicology

 Analytical And Forensictology

 Economic/Financial Risks

FONTOX was conceived from Forum of Ibadan Toxicologists (FIBATON) because of the perceived need to harness our strengths in this young field of science that addresses environmental dynamics with an all-encompassing approach.

The convener, Prof. E. Olatunde Farombi in his opening remark, welcomed all participants.

In his welcome address, he said, “On behalf of the Executive and advisers of the FONTOX, it is my pleasure to welcome all participants to the 2nd Biennial Toxicology Conference.

I am particularly happy that quite a number of scientists in the various of Toxicology have shown keen interest and enthusiasm in the society by participating at this conference as attested to by the large number of abstracts received following our announcement and calls for papers”.

He also said, “I would like to express my appreciation to the Association of African Biomedical Scientists (AABS), Nevark, New Jersey for their support for this conference. I also appreciate the Executive members of FONTOX and advisers for their timely advice and support”.

Present at the event were lecturers and professors across the world. Among them are Professors Suleiman Ambali, John Anetor, Aina Adeogun, Drs. Ishiaq Omotosho, Amos Abolaji and Funmilayo Afolayan. Others were Professor Corrado Galli, Professor of Toxicology at the university of Milan, Italy, Professor Vanessa Steenkamp, Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, Professor James Klaunig, emeritus Professor of Environmental Health at the Indiana University, Bloomington, USA, Professor J.B.T Rocha, Professor of Biochemistry at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria(UFSM) and Univerdade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil and Professor Momoh A. Yakubu, Professor of Pharmacology and Environmental Toxicology, Texas Southern University, USA.
