ASUU: Katsina lecturers to embark on total strike

The Federal University, Dutsin-Ma branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has called for a total and indefinite strike by union members nationwide if the Federal Government continues to ignore the union’s demands.

The ASUU members at the institution also called on the FG to “return to the new draft agreement of 2009 FGN /ASUU Renegotiation Committee report as a demonstration of good faith.”

The ASUU members arrived at the resolution after their congress which was held at the institution’s take-off campus in Dutsin-ma on Monday.

A copy of the resolutions arrived at during the congress was made available to The PUNCH on Tuesday. It was signed by the union’s branch Chairperson, Jibrin Shagari and the Secretary, Mzungu Ignatius.

The resolutions read, “Today (Monday) August 22, 2022, the Federal University, Dutsin-ma branch of ASUU held a congress at the instance of the recent government offers on the contentious issues in the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement for which the union has been on strike since February 14, 2022. The so-called offer that the FG came up with include;

“Failure of government to address the issues as outlined above, the union should proceed with a total and indefinite strike action. The union branch is calling on the Federal Government to return to the New Draft Agreement of 2009 FGN/ASUU Renegotiation committee report as a demonstration of good faith .”

Meanwhile, activities at the FUDMA and the Umaru Musa Yar’dua University, Katsina were still at low ebb as of Tuesday morning following the ASUU strike.
