Dominican University holds Talent Hunt show, Christmas Concert, gives cash prizes to winners

The Students Council of the Dominican University, Ibadan, organised her maiden edition of Talent Hunt show (DU Got Talent) and Christmas Concert.

The concert which was held on Thursday at the DU campus ground Samonda Ibadan was organised to mark the end of the calendar year by the institution.

This event which was also tagged DU Got Talent, Season 1, was an occasion that thrilled everyone as the Talent Show titled ‘DU Got Talent’ (DGT) had contestants performing in Music, Comedy, Poetry and Dance.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Rev. Fr. Patrick Akunne in an exclusive interview with CEOAFRICA disclosed that the talent hunt was set up to encourage students to showcase their talent.

“The University discovered that many of them can sing, perform skits, and so we try to encourage them to bring this skills out because it’s a way of discovering the talents they have apart from engaging in educational activities.

He encouraged the winners to improve on their talent and develop the skills to be positive in the society.

He also urged the students to know that there is time for everything, urging to know how to combine their talents with their academics.

In his opening speech, the Student council chairman, Vincent Obasi said the event was spurred by the quest to bring together people of different religions and cultural diversity to become a driving force for solidarity and authentic development.

He said “the preliminary stages of this talent show have been generating massive media awareness of our school and that is basic aim of the event. The live auditioning was explosive and the live show which held on Wednesday was also powerful.

“Today is the grand finale; we have only the best of the best remaining in the show and gunning for the ultimate Price. For us it is not about winning the price, but about discovering the huge deposit of talent in our university and its environs.

“We know that the journey to stardom and fame starts from bringing this great star acts to limelight and we ask that you join us cheer this great talents to stardom.”

He also disclosed that of all the applications and from various parts of the south west and in the university, only 11 contestants made it to the grand finale.

Of the 11 contestants only 5 made it to the final stage, and after serious work from the judges, B2k won the second runner up position, went home with 15,000 naira cash, ML dance group won the first runner up position and 25,000 naira was given to them as cash price, while Temitope took the first position and smiled home with 50,000 naira cash

In an exclusive chat with CEOAFRICA, the winner, Miss Temitope who said that she was excited and nervous at same time however advised youths to be the best version of themselves.

Beautiful song renditions from the UI choir, Geraldo, and all the contestants wowed the audiences present.

Some of the dignitaries present were the Representative of the Oyo state Commissioner of Police, Dean of Student Affairs, Rev. Fr. Patrick Akunne Rev Fr Dioka O. P, Rev. Fr Felix Oluwesiri, Dr. Nelson Ukwamedua and others.
