JUST IN: Striking railway workers protest,occupy major roads in ibadan

FRIDAY- 19th November, 2021: Workers of the Nigerian Railway Commission in Ibadan today continued the warning strike embarked upon nationwide to protest their poor salary packages amongst many other grievances by members of the union.
Recall that CEOAFRICA reported the shutdown of railway stations in Ibadan which has so far crippled activities in and around the stations.
 Intending passengers who trouped in were turned back from the Obafemi Awolowo Train Station Moniya and also at the Ladoke Akintola Train Station at Omi Adio in Ibadan, Oyo State on Thursday following the strike embarked upon by railway workers.

As at the time of filing this report some of the workers were seen on major roads in Ibadan the state capital of Oyo armed with placards with various inscriptions to voice out their grievances concerning the way they were being treated, they however, refused to grant interviews. 
 
The protesting workers still maintaining that it was a nationwide strike and their leaders at the national level had been mandated to speak with journalists on the matter.

A visit to the railway station still showed that the train that was scheduled to leave by 8am did not because of the strike embarked upon by the Nigerian Union Railway Workers.
Vehicular and transport activities by Taxi drivers who usually park waiting for the arrival of the train from Lagos around 11:30am had also deserted the car park, while the ticketing office, departure and arrival were all deserted.
Some residents of Ibadan who preferred using the  railway, expressed regret saying they had planned to board the train to Lagos on Friday but they would have to travel by road because of the development.
