SATURDAY- 10th October, 2021: The Registrar, National Board for Technical Education, Prof. Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe, said on Friday that no fewer than 74,068, amounting to 92.65% of candidate who sat for the 2021 NABTEB, failed English Language and Mathematics, and still scored above 5 credits.

Isiugo-Abanihe added that those candidates scored more than 5 credits passes, but failed English and Mathematics.

She made this know at a press conference in Benin, held to announce the release of the 2021 NCT/NTC examination. She also said 58, 307, amounting to 72.96% of candidate scored 5 credits including English and Math.

Isiugo-Abanihe said the total of 83,504 candidates registered in 1,614 in centers across the country; only 79,915 sat for the examination.

According to her, this year’s result was more satisfying than that of the year 2020.

Prof. Ifeoma said “Furthermore, a total of 74,069 candidates obtained 5 credits and above with or without English Language and Mathematics; this represents 92.68 per cent of the candidates that sat for the examinations. Comparatively, this performance is higher than the previous year’s 2020 in-school NBC/NTC examinations results where 36,202 candidates representing 63.99 per cent obtained five credits and above including English and Mathematics.”

Speaking on effort made to curb examination malpractice in the system, Isiugo-Abanihe said “These efforts yielded desirable results in the last NBC/NTC examinations. For instance, 455 candidates representing 0.54% of the total number of candidates that sat for the 2021 NBC/NTC examinations were involved in examination malpractice. Comparatively, a total of 453 candidates, representing 0.79 of the total number of candidates that sat for the 2020 in-school certificate examinations were involved in examination malpractice which implies a decrease in malpractice incidences,” she said.

While noting that the Board has continue to record significant increase in enrollment, the Registrar noted that the Federal Government Recognises the importance of technical and vocational education and training, along with technology science and Mathematics as tools for national technological development.
