NIGERIA (Nasarawa)-After last Saturday’s Local Government Election, the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission has released the official results of the poll.
According to the result announced Sunday night, the ruling party in the state, the All Progressive Congress [APC] won in six local government areas while the opposition Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] dominated in four.
The election in three local governments which are Nasarawa, Akwanga and Obi were declared inconclusive by the electoral commission.
PDP won in Kokona, Keffi, Keana and Nasarawa Eggon local government areas as winners, while APC won in Awe, Doma, Wamba, Karu, Toto, and Lafia local government councils.
According to the electoral commission’s boss, Abdullahi Modibo, elections would be held in four wards in Akwanga and in three wards in Obi.
“The Akwanga LGA result was declared inconclusive, owing to the fact that results from the four wards of Andaha, Gudi, Akwanga-West and Akwanga-East were still pending.
“The four affected wards in Akwanga have a voting strength of over 30,000. Therefore, there will be no justification in declaring a winner without the results from those wards.
“In the case of Nasarawa LGA, Returning Officers for six electoral wards absconded, thereby leaving the commission with no option than to declare the election inconclusive.
“In Obi LGA, elections are still pending in three wards, and fresh elections will be conducted in the affected wards,’’ Mr. Modibbo said.
Akwanga is the local government of Deputy Governor Damishi Luka, who recently defected from the APC to the PDP.
