The Nigerian Police Council has confirmed Ibrahim Idris as substantive Inspector-General of Police.

  The police confirmed Idris after at a meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

 The meeting took place shortly after a meeting of the Council of State.

 Addressing State House correspondents after the meeting, Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru, said the IG's appointment was unanimously approved by the police council.

 Badaru said the council expected the IG to continue to do his best for the country.

 Lagos State Governor Akinwumi Ambode told journalists that the approval of the IG's appointment would be presented to the National Assembly for confirmation.

 President Muhammadu Buhari had on June 21 appointed Idris acting IGP following the retirement of Solomon Arase.

 Ambode also disclosed that the Council of State confirmed the appointments of six additional commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

 He added that the appointments of five commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC) were also confirmed.
