The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo the Osun State capital has upheld the election of senator representing Osun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Babajide Omoworare on the platform of the All Progressive Congress.

It will be recalled that Prince Francis Fadahunsi of PDP had dragged Omoworare of APC before the tribunal to challenge his victory at the polls, joining APC and INEC as respondents, on allegations of gross misconduct and malpractices during the last election. The tribunal in its unanimous judgement dismissed the petition of the People Democratic Party, (PDP) candidate.

The chairman of the Tribunal, Justice A.G Kajaffa upheld the election of Omoworare, describing the petitioner's case as lacking concrete evidences to back up is petition, saying the petitioner failed to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt.

The tribunal has however directed the petitioner to pay a sum of N50,000 to each of the respondents as compensation.

Counsel to Omoworare, Mr Wale Afolabi expressed satisfaction with verdict of the tribunal, stressing that the judgment only re-affirmed their claims of free, fair and credible election.

Meanwhile, counsel to the petitioners, Chief Ojo Williams appreciated the tribunal for a thorough process, maintaining that ‎his team would go back to the petitioner for further consultation.

In his reaction, the petitioner, Mr Fadahunsi promised to challenge the judgement of the tribunal at the appellate court.

While speaking on his victory, Omoworare in a statement by his media assistant Tunde Dairo described his victory as a victory for the truth, the people, democracy and rule of law.

According to him, “truth is ever constant and will always triumph over lies, no matter the degree of manipulation, it will remain constant. The people have won, democracy has won and the judiciary has lived up to its essence."
