Two termed Honourable Member of the Federal House of Representative and former Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora, Hon Abike Dabiri has assured that the coming back to the root of Africans in the Diaspora is a good thing which will help in boosting the political  and socio-economic values of Africa.

Hon Dabiri made this known on the occasion of the joint distinguished personality lecture, organised by the Institute of African Studies,University of Ibadan.

Hon Dabiri stated that ‘’Africans need these people who have distinguished themselves and are making headway in their chosen career and field Abroad. The influences and experiences they have garnered over the years, which could not be over emphasised will turn African as a continent around.’’

She stated further that "their coming to the roots will not spell a doom for the continent but will bring about the desired change to the continent."

Earlier in his address, the Head of Diaspora and Transnational Studies Programme, Dr Senayon Olaoluwa said: "today's programme is the interface between academic intervention and policy formulation."

He said that ‘’Nigeria and Africa Diaspora takes a new and radical dimensions since the past two decades when it became clear that the impact of the 'outwards self' on the homeland could no longer be ignored.

"In Nigeria, if today we can talk about an evolving diaspora template as an official response of the Nigerian Government, such affirmation must acknowledge the immense contributions of Hon Dabiri," he said.

According to him, "she worked tirelessly in sponsoring and ensuring the passage of the Diaspora Bill in the National Assembly before she gracefully bowed out.’’

"Her passion for Diaspora is convincing and we are persuaded that this occasion of the Distinguished Personality Lecture, will mark the beginning of collaboration between us and her various activities which interface with governance and for which she is known and fondly called Mama Diaspora,’’ he said.
