Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will win a second term in the 2027 presidential election, saying the administration has recorded significant achievements since assuming office.

Akpabio spoke on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, when he received members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFund, led by Senator Muntari Dandutse, representing Katsina South.

The Senate President said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would have enough achievements to present to Nigerians when campaigns for the 2027 elections begin.

He said Tinubu inherited a challenging economic situation but had implemented measures that, in his view, had improved the finances of states and enabled them to meet their salary and pension obligations.

“The current president has done a lot for Nigerians. He met an economy in shambles. When he came in, 27 states could not pay salaries and pensions, but today, the story has changed because of his reengineering and thinking out of the box,” Akpabio said.

He predicted that Nigerians would reward the Tinubu administration at the polls, insisting that the APC would campaign on its record in office.

“In 2027, Nigerians will separate the chaff from the grains and re-elect President Tinubu for a second term in office. We will have something to tell Nigerians about the unprecedented achievements of Mr President at the campaign grounds,” he said.

Akpabio also criticised opposition politicians seeking to unseat Tinubu, accusing them of failing to present Nigerians with a convincing alternative to the APC-led government.

The Senate President defended the performance of the 10th National Assembly under his leadership, saying the Senate had recorded what he described as “giant strides” and would continue to collaborate with the executive in implementing its programmes.

He urged lawmakers to remain focused and not be distracted by criticism on social media.

“We don’t need to listen to social media because it is garbage in, garbage out,” Akpabio said.

He further appealed to senators who may not return to the 11th Senate after the 2027 elections to remain committed to the APC and support the Tinubu administration.

According to him, their loyalty and continued contributions to the party would be recognised.

The meeting was attended by members of the Senate committee, who were in Akwa Ibom as part of their legislative responsibilities during the annual recess.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Dandutse said the committee’s visit was aimed at fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities and paying a courtesy visit to the Senate President.
