It was gathered that several shops which belonged to Somali nationals in KwaZakhele and New Brighton in Port Elizabeth, were looted and burnt by hoodlums at the weekend.

According to the Police spokesperson, Brigadier Marinda Mills, at least ten shops were attacked.

“Two shops at Ntintili Street were looted and burnt and vehicles, which was parked outside the shop was set alight,” he said.

The attack, according to what CEOAFRICA.com gathered from sources, followed the arrest of a Somali man after he allegedly shot and killed a man outside a shop on Saturday evening.

Mills further said, “According to a witness, there was an argument between the suspect and the victim. The police arrested the suspect and the firearm used was recovered.”

Police had since moved some foreigners out of the area, while the man would be charged to court soon.
