FIVE people, including three policemen, were, late on Thursday, killed, as robbers attacked a Lekki Phase 1 branch of a new generation bank in Lagos.
The police in the state, however, insisted that only three policemen who engaged the robbers were killed in the clash.
Many people were also injured as the robbers shot sporadically into different directions to attack the policemen who dared to stop them.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the robbers, who stormed the bank in a speedboat, also escaped through the waterways.
A source informed the Nigerian Tribune that the robbers invaded the bank around 4.50 p.m. and engaged the policemen on duty in a serious gun duel that lasted more than 30 minutes.
At the end of the gun battle, three policemen were killed, while the robbers forced their way into the bank, where they reportedly escaped with yet-to-be ascertained amount of money.
The image maker in charge of the state police command, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the robbery incident to the Nigerian Tribune, adding that investigations into the robbery operation had commenced.
Nwosu confirmed the killing of the policemen, but assured that they would arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
