Sultan Cautions Politicians Against Bitter Rivalry

The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman, Northern Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on politicians to refrain from campaign of calumny as they try to seek the people’s mandate.

The sultan made this call at a meeting of traditional rulers on Wednesday at the Lugard Hall in Kaduna, he said the traditional institution in the North was concerned about the bitter political rivalry and the do-or-die attitude been exhibited by some politicians.

He pleaded with politicians to play by the rule of the game and shun acts capable of throwing the country into chaos.

He emphasized the need for traditional rulers in the country to always tell politicians the truth no matter how bitter it might sound.

 “We are against what is happening in the north, especially in north east. So we will not keep quite because there are a lot of wrongs happening in the polity. People always talk about election but I never heard them talking about what happened before, after and during election.

“As traditional leaders we must ensure a free and fair election. We don’t care about the outcome all we are interested in is free, fair and violence free elections,” he said.

Also addressing the meeting, the Kaduna State Governor, Alhaji  Muktar Yero, who was represented by his deputy, Ambassador Nuhu Bajoga, tasked the traditional rulers to work with relevant stakeholders to facilitate a credible, free and fair elections.

“You must strive to promote the values of equity and justice in other to have peace and good governance in our country. We must never give up until we restore our region and the country to the statues of the glorious past,” the governor said.
