One person has died while three others sustained serious injuries in a road accident along the Coastal Road in the Victoria Island area of Lagos.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Friday and involved a grey Lexus Jeep 350.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the vehicle reportedly lost control, crashed into a roadside pole and overturned.

LASTMA’s Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed this in a statement, saying the crash resulted in one fatality and left three other occupants seriously injured.

He said LASTMA operatives monitoring traffic along the Coastal Road quickly responded to the scene, secured the affected section and facilitated emergency rescue efforts.

According to him, the three injured victims were extricated from the wreckage with the assistance of Good Samaritans and taken to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for medical attention.

Taofiq said relevant emergency and security agencies were subsequently deployed to carry out rescue, investigation and other safety procedures.

He added that security personnel from Victoria Island provided reinforcement, while LASTMA officers cleared the wrecked vehicle from the road to prevent a secondary accident and restore normal traffic flow.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, sympathised with the family of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise greater caution while driving.

Bakare-Oki advised motorists to maintain reasonable speeds, avoid reckless driving and comply with traffic regulations, warning that loss of vehicular control could result in fatal consequences.

He also appealed to members of the public to report road crashes, vehicle breakdowns, obstructions and other emergencies through LASTMA’s toll-free short code, 3367, for prompt intervention.
