The Oyo State Police Command has alleged that a personal assistant attached to the family of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, supplied information that facilitated the abduction of his sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons.
The allegation was made by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, during an appearance on Channels Television's *The Morning Brief*, where he provided updates on the ongoing investigation into the kidnapping.
Mrs. John-Paul and her twin sons, Peter and Paul, were abducted on June 3, 2026, in the Elewura area of Ring Road, Ibadan, while she was taking the children to school. The victims were subsequently rescued during a police operation that also resulted in the death of two suspected kidnappers.
According to Ayanlade, the rescue mission was conducted on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police and coordinated by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police in collaboration with operatives of the Force Intelligence Department's Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT).
The police spokesperson disclosed that one of the principal suspects, identified simply as Ololu, had been under surveillance before his arrest.
"One of the perpetrators, popularly known as Ololu, had been on the command's watch list. Operatives continued to trail him until his eventual arrest," Ayanlade said.
He added that intelligence obtained during the suspect's interrogation led to the arrest of another suspect, identified as Dare, also known as "Solution."
Ayanlade further alleged that investigations revealed that the kidnappers received assistance from a personal assistant, identified as Shehu, who was familiar with the family's daily activities and movements.
"The personal assistant, Shehu, was among those arrested. He was allegedly approached to provide information about the family's lifestyle, routine and movements, which aided the planning of the operation," he said.
According to the police, the suspects initially planned to abduct Mrs. John-Paul after monitoring the family's routine. However, the plan reportedly changed when they discovered that a driver usually transported the children to school.
"The original target was the mother. However, after observing that a driver regularly took the children to school, they shifted their focus to the children. On the day of the incident, the mother happened to be driving them herself, and the suspects carried out the abduction," Ayanlade explained.
The police spokesperson said the victims were traced to a hideout in Ibadan and rescued during an operation conducted at about 7:30 p.m. on June 6.
He disclosed that one of the suspects, identified as Kelechi, who allegedly travelled from Lagos to participate in the kidnapping, opened fire on security operatives during the rescue mission.
"The suspects engaged the operatives in a gun battle. In response, the officers acted professionally and neutralised Kelechi and another suspect who was providing cover fire," he said.
Police said weapons were recovered from the scene, while the victims were rescued unharmed.
Ayanlade noted that investigations remain ongoing and that several suspects are currently in custody.
"I would not want to pre-empt the investigation. The suspects are in custody, and we are still pursuing other members of the gang who escaped," he said.
He added that efforts are continuing to apprehend all individuals connected to the abduction and unravel the full circumstances surrounding the crime.
