The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has described the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, as qualified to occupy the office of President of Nigeria.

Obi made the declaration on Monday while attending the inauguration of Makinde’s presidential campaign office in Abuja.

The former Anambra State governor said his presence at the event was a demonstration of solidarity and a call for greater cooperation among political actors ahead of the 2027 general election.

Obi also pledged to work with whoever emerges as president in the 2027 election, stressing that the outcome must be the product of a free, fair and credible electoral process.

“We want a Nigeria of unity and inclusion. We have a candidate who is contesting for President today, my dear brother Makinde. Is he qualified to be President? Yes, he is qualified,” Obi said.

He said the political contest should not be driven by desperation or personal ambition but should give Nigerians the opportunity to freely choose their leaders.

“What we are doing today, for us, is not about desperation, but we want Nigerians to make their choice. All of us should come together to build a new Nigeria.

“We can’t continue the way we are going; our people are hungry and poor,” he said.

Obi further said politicians must be prepared to put aside their differences and work together in the national interest, regardless of who wins the 2027 election.

“Whoever wins genuinely from a free, fair and credible election, we will all work together to save this country from collapse,” he added.

The NDC candidate also called for an end to what he described as the politics of quarrel and disagreement, urging political leaders to focus their competition on finding solutions to Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.

“That’s why I’m here to show solidarity and assure you that we are changing the system. We don’t want politics of quarrel, politics of disagreement.

“Let our quarrel be to feed our people. We want a Nigeria where the child of nobody can be somebody without knowing anybody,” Obi said.
