The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure justice in the alleged extrajudicial killing of a suspect in Delta State.
Speaking at a press conference held Tuesday at the Police Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, the IGP stated that decisive action had already been taken against the officer involved. He disclosed that the officer and members of his team have been dismissed from service, underscoring the Force’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.
According to Disu, the case file has been forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for criminal proceedings.
“This matter will not be swept aside. Accountability will be pursued to its full and logical conclusion,” he said.
The IGP further noted that the suspect was allegedly found in possession of a locally fabricated Beretta-style pistol and four rounds of live 9mm ammunition, adding that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Addressing public concerns, Disu emphasized that while the incident is regrettable, it does not define the Nigeria Police Force. “Our response is clear — zero tolerance, full accountability, no exceptions,” he stated.
Highlighting recent operational achievements, the IGP revealed that throughout April 2026, the Force recorded significant successes through intelligence-led operations. These include the arrest of 28 suspected terrorists, 51 individuals linked to murder and culpable homicide, 62 armed robbery suspects, 85 kidnapping suspects, and 54 suspected cultists.
He also disclosed that police operations led to the rescue of 189 kidnapping victims. Additionally, a total of 140 assorted firearms, 1,074 rounds of ammunition, and 37 stolen vehicles were recovered during the period.
The police leadership reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law while strengthening public trust through accountability and effective crime-fighting measures.
