The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a viral graphic circulating on social media that falsely claims the commission fixed March 26 as the deadline for government officials seeking elective office to resign.

In a statement issued on Friday via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the electoral body clarified that the information did not originate from the commission and described the graphic as misleading and unverified.

INEC urged members of the public, media organisations and political stakeholders to disregard the message, warning that the spread of unverified information could create unnecessary confusion.

The commission reiterated that all official announcements regarding electoral matters are communicated only through its verified channels. These include its official website, verified social media platforms and formal press releases.

It further advised citizens to always confirm election-related information through these official platforms before sharing such content publicly.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and pledged to continue providing accurate and timely information to the public on electoral processes.
