The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a security alert to American citizens residing in Abuja ahead of a planned protest in the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement shared Wednesday via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Embassy warned of a high likelihood of demonstrations in Abuja linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

The Embassy noted that previous protests connected to the conflict have resulted in violent clashes between demonstrators and Nigerian security forces. As a precautionary measure, it strongly advised all U.S. citizens in Abuja to remain indoors on Wednesday, March 4.

In addition to the security advisory, the Embassy announced the cancellation of all visa appointments scheduled for March 4, 2026. Applicants affected by the suspension will be contacted with information on how to reschedule their appointments.

“Due to the potential for protests in Abuja, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja has cancelled all visa appointments on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Applicants will be contacted with information on how to reschedule. Please monitor our website and social media channels for further updates,” the statement read.

For emergency assistance, the Embassy urged U.S. citizens to contact its emergency line at +234 209 461 4328 or visit its official website.
