Friends, family members, colleagues, and members of the academic and scientific community on Friday, January 23, 2026, gathered to celebrate Professor Aina O. Adeogun, FAS, Head of the Department of Zoology, University of Ibadan, and Coordinator of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Ibadan Branch, on the occasion of her birthday.

The colourful celebration, which held at the celebrant’s residence, brought together a wide array of guests, including academics, researchers, professional colleagues, friends, and members of the OWSD community, all united in honouring a woman widely admired for her contributions to science, research, mentorship, and academic leadership.

The atmosphere was filled with warmth and joy as guests were treated to music, lively conversations, and a generous spread of food and drinks. The event also featured a symbolic cake-cutting moment, followed by group photographs, dance sessions, and informal interactions that reflected the celebrant’s close relationship with those present.

Among the dignitaries at the gathering were Professor Solomon Fagade, Professor Alexander Bababunmi Odaibo, Immediate Past President of the Zoological Society of Nigeria (ZSN), and Prof. Ruth Adio-Moses, alongside other respected scholars and professionals who have worked closely with Prof. Adeogun over the years. Several guests took turns to share goodwill messages, personal reflections, and words of admiration, highlighting her impact as a scholar, mentor, and advocate for women in science.

Speakers at the event described Professor Adeogun as a committed academic whose career has been marked by excellence in teaching, impactful research, and a passion for nurturing the next generation of scientists. Many praised her leadership at the University of Ibadan and her role through OWSD in creating platforms for mentorship, collaboration, and global scientific engagement for women scientists in developing countries.

Representing CEOAFRICA, the MD/CEO, Prince Cletus Ilobanafor, extended warm birthday wishes to the celebrant, describing her as a trailblazer whose work continues to inspire within and beyond Nigeria’s academic space.

“Professor Aina Adeogun exemplifies dedication, integrity, and excellence in scholarship. Her contributions to science and her commitment to empowering others, particularly women in research, speak volumes. We celebrate her today and wish her many more years of impactful service,” Ilobanafor said.
