Olugbon celebrates conservationist Dr. Josef Onoh on his birthday

HRM Oba Francis Alao, the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, has extended heartfelt congratulations to conservationist and clinical psychologist Dr. Josef Umunnakwe Onoh on the occasion of his birthday. Known for his unwavering commitment to national development and democratic ideals, Dr. Onoh has made significant contributions to various sectors in Nigeria.

In his warm birthday message, Oba Alao praised Onoh for his remarkable dedication to public service and visionary leadership, highlighting the indelible impact he has made on the country. The monarch urged Dr. Onoh to continue building on his legacy of service as he embarks on another year of life, celebrating his achievements while seeking God's grace and mercy.

“The people of Orile-Igbon and my family join me in extending sincere congratulations on your special day,” said Oba Alao. “This occasion not only allows us to celebrate your life but also to acknowledge your significant contributions to the development of our great nation, Nigeria.”

The Olugbon continued to commend Onoh’s tireless efforts in fostering unity, growth, and positive change across the nation, noting, “Your unwavering dedication to public service and passion for uplifting others serve as a beacon of hope and progress for our society.”

Oba Alao also emphasized Dr. Onoh's dual commitment to human development and environmental conservation, stating, “Your work reflects a profound concern for both people and the planet, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.”

As the monarch concluded his message, he expressed hopes for Onoh’s continued success and fulfillment, stating, “May this new year bring you abundant joy, health, and opportunities to make an even greater impact in the lives of others.”

Dr. Josef Umunnakwe Onoh, born and raised in Scotland, United Kingdom, is not only a wildlife conservationist but also a prominent political figure in Enugu State. He served as a member of the Enugu State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2007, where he held the position of House Committee Chairman on Finance and Appropriation. In addition, Onoh has been involved in various advisory roles under former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, including Senior Special Adviser on Special Projects and Executive Chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority from 2019 to 2023.

His political journey has seen him active in several parties, beginning with the Grassroot Democratic Movement and All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) before joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Most recently, he became a key member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and served as the Southeast campaign spokesman for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections. In 2024, he established the Asiwaju Renewed Mandate Southeast (ARMSE) to further support Tinubu’s agenda.

Passionate about wildlife conservation, Dr. Onoh founded Woodland Park, a privately funded zoological facility and wildlife charity trust in Enugu. His dedication to conservation has been influenced by his mother and renowned broadcaster Sir David Attenborough. Onoh, a member of the Institute of Hospitality in the United Kingdom, also has extensive experience in the private sector, including a tenure as Executive Director of Eastern Bottlers from 2000 to 2002.
