Chibuike Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, has accused the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of exhibiting bias.

According to him, Mahmood Yakubu is not like Attahiru Jega, a former INEC boss, whom he describes as a real democrat.

Amaechi, who was on Arise News on Tuesday evening, claimed that had Yakubu been the INEC Chairman in 2015, the All Progressives Congress (APC) would not have won against an incumbent president.

Jega conducted the 2015 general election that brought the APC to power, sending the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government led by Goodluck Jonathan out of Aso Rock.

Yakubu was in charge in 2019 and 2023, with the APC retaining power at the national level.

However, Amaechi is among the top politicians who are coming together to form a coalition with the hope of sacking the Tinubu administration, but it appears the former minister has doubts about the electoral umpire.

“The current chairman of INEC, if he was the chairman of INEC in 2015, we would not have won. May God bless Jega. The current chairman of INEC can only be compared to Iwu,” he said.

“When we were to register APC, Jega opened the door and we complied with the registration requirements. He got APC registered. The current man, if you comply with all these, he would not register you. Already, INEC is biased.”

Other top politicians fronting the conversations about a coalition include a former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, amongst others.
