Nigeria and Russia on Monday signed an agreement for the supply of potash, a component used for fertilizer production, from Russia.

The agreement followed the recent meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and President Vladimir Putin where Putin had spoken of the need for Nigeria to obtain potash from his country.

The agreement was signed at the presidential villa, Abuja between the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) and the Russian company representative, under the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative.

Nigeria already gets its phosphate (another fertilizer component) supply from Morocco.
