The Met Police have dismissed an officer, Rafiqur Rahman, for touching a female colleague inappropriately while on duty.

Rahman was dismissed after an investigation by the Met’s professional standards unit.

The police officer, attached to the policing team covering Newham and Waltham Forest, answered allegations that his actions breached the standards of discreditable conduct at a misconduct hearing that concluded on Monday, 12 February.

Chief Superintendent Simon Crick, responsible for policing in those boroughs, said all his officers were expected to behave with the utmost integrity, both towards the public and towards their colleagues.

He said he was sickened that his officer was assaulted in this way and that the police were taking steps to ensure her continued welfare.

“Rahman has no place in the Met or policing and has now been rightly dismissed,” he stated.

According to the police, the Directorate of Professional Standards launched an investigation after the officer reported in June 2022 that while on shift with Rahman in February 2021, he had inappropriately touched her.

The police added that the following shift, she sent him a message about another matter and that Rahman responded with an inappropriate message.

The Met reports that Rahman was placed on restricted duties while an investigation was carried out, disclosing that the panel found the allegations against him proven at the level of gross misconduct.

The police said Rahman would be added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing.

Those appearing on the list cannot be employed by police, local policing bodies (PCCs), the Independent Office for Police Conduct or His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
