A member of the House of Representatives, representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu has expressed concerns over the raid of the headquarters of the Dangote Group by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The EFCC had on Thursday raided the headquarters of the Dangote Group in connection with ongoing investigation into forex allocations in the country.

It was reported that on arrival at the headquarters of the Dangote group in Lagos, the EFCC operatives demanded documents relating to allocation of foreign exchange to the group in the last ten years.

Part of the statement further read as thus; “as relayed by the state Controller of Corrections, Salami Abdulraheem Olubamiji(CC), Governor Makinde’s seasonal gesture provides forgiveness and hope to dozens of incarcerated individuals across Oyo State.”

“This effort will go a long way to boost the morale of all the inmates and encourage them to involve themselves in various vocational and academic training programs provided in the facilities to rebuild their lives,” stated Controller Salami.”

The breakdown analysis of the clemency order is as follows; 10 inmates were immediately released from custody this holiday season. While Four inmates on death row have their sentence commuted to life imprisonment.

Fifteen (15) individuals currently serving term, received reductions in their term of incarceration, as another four (4) inmates that are students progressing towards degrees at the National Open University in custodial centres approved for release upon graduation.

The Nigerian Correctional custodial facilities in Oyo State house over 1,800 inmates in facilities located in Ogbomoso, Ibadan and Oyo Town.

These facilities provide substantive rehabilitation and skills-building programs daily so that restored citizens can contribute to society.

NCoS Officials are processing the required paperwork to begin discharging the approved inmates immediately.
