The Flamingos of Nigeria will tackle the United States of America for a place in the quarter-finals at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India on Friday (today).
The Flamingos during an interview on Thursday, said they foresee an interesting encounter when they battle the United States of America in Navi, Mumbai, today.
It is the first time both Countries will be meeting at this level.
Having failed to reach the semi-finals in six previous editions, the Nigerians are set out to achieve the impossible, ending the Country’s 14-year wait for a last-four berth on their fourth quarter-final appearance.
Forward Opeyemi Ajakaye, though yet to register a goal for Nigeria in the competition, has been the team’s key star.
The 16-year-old won back-to-back Player of the Match against New Zealand and Chile and much will be expected from her against the Americans.
Head Coach, Bankole Olowookere will also bank on the likes of Aminat Bello, Blessing Emmanuel Bisola Mosaku and Captain Alvine Dah-Zossu to deliver the goods for his side.
The Americans will also hope to reach the semis for the first time since 2008, when they finished as runners-up at the inaugural edition in New Zealand.
