Army intercepts cannabis worth N4.9m in Yobe

The North-East Joint Task Force, Damaturu, Yobe State, has handed 98 parcel of cannabis sativa worth N4.9 million to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The Sector Commander, Major General Koko Isoni, disclosed this while handing over the seized substances to the Agency on Monday in Damaturu.
The commander, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Umar Mu’azu, said the substances were seized on October 7th, 2022 by troops of the 159 Battalion in Geidam Local Government Area of the State.
He said; “It was abandoned by the courier including the vehicle conveying the consignment when he saw the patrol team.”
In his remarks, the State Commandant of the Agency, Aliyu Yahaya, commended the army for the gesture and noted that each parcel of Cannabis costs N50,000.
The commandant who was represented by the Deputy State Commandant, Ogar Peter, also appreciated the synergy between the security Agencies in the State.
He said; “We are pleased to receive this exhibit. The gesture demonstrates the synergy that exists between the security agencies in the State.”
Yahaya noted that the Nigerian Army has been committed to stop drug peddling in the State.
