Iran on Thursday restricted Internet access, after days of protests and unrest that have claimed at least 17 lives, following the death of a young woman in the custody of the Morality Police.
Last week, public anger flared up in the Islamic republic over the death of  a 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was detained for allegedly wearing a hijab headscarf in an ‘’improper way.’’
It was reported that Amini, whose Kurdish first name is Jhina, had suffered a fatal blow to the head, but the claim was denied by officials, who had announced an investigation.
The public had protested for six nights straight and women demonstrators daringly took off their headscarves and burned them in bonfires or symbolically cut their hair before cheering crowds.
The protesters in Tehran were heard chanting in a rally that has been echoed by Solidarity protest Abroad;
“No to the headscarf … yes to freedom and equality!”
One of the Iranian women, who spoke during an interview with Newsmen in Tehran, noted that they are more cautious about their dress to avoid run-ins with the Morality police.
She said; “I’m frightened, they shouldn’t confront people at all or interfere with how women dress.’’
Meanwhile, there has been a growing International alarm at the Iranian crackdown on the protests,  including from  the United States President Joe Biden, who in an address to the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday said;
“Today, we stand with the brave citizens and the brave women of Iran who right now are demonstrating to secure their basic rights.’’
