The Oyo State Government on Saturday declared that it had sealed some houses and shops over unhygienic practices.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abiodun Oni who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday said the premises sealed are within the Academy Market in Ibadan
Oni noted that the residents and owners of the sealed premises failed to comply with the laid down hygienic practices which resulted in the closure, during the ongoing sensitisation and enforcement campaign on Saturday.
The Commissioner said  the exercise was done to ensure total compliance with environmental hygiene and prevent possible outbreaks of diseases  and the affected buildings were responsible for heaps of waste dumped in the market.
“Market places are by nature unkempt with practices that are harmful to the ecosystem.’’
