The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has said the only way to resolve the misunderstanding in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is for the National Chairman, Senator Iyorcha Ayu to resign.
Makinde declared this during an interactive session with the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming 2023 election, Abubakar Atiku and chieftains of the party from the South West zone in Ibadan on Wednesday.
CEOAFRICA had earlier reported that Atiku arrived in Ibadan in the company of Governors Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, his running mate, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Soji Adagunodo, Chief Raymond Dokpesiand others
The PDP chieftains were received by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, his Deputy, Adebayo Lawal and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin.
Makinde explained that the PDP must restructure itself before it restructure Nigeria and one of the conditions to restructure the party is for Ayu to resign, as the presidential candidate, Atiku is from the North and Ayu is also from the North.
The Governor stated that the conditions to balance the equation is to choose the National chairman from the South since the Presidential candidate is from the North.
“We must speak the truth. The truth is that we don’t have any issue either with the party or the candidate.’’
“We don’t have any issue with the PDP. This is not about an individual. Those are the issues that are behind us, it has happened, it has happened.’’
“The issue is that we must restructure Nigeria if we want unity in Nigeria. But, we must restructure PDP itself before we restructure Nigeria.’’
“If we want to restructure Nigeria, do we have the capacity, the answer is yes.’’
“But, the South-West PDP is asking the PDP chairman to resign.’’
The South-West PDP is telling the Chairman to step down”.
