Ibadan towns and other villages in Oyo State have been plunged into darkness in the last 24 hours.

This is as result of the imbroglio between the state government and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

CEOAFRICA had earlier reported that Oyo State Government has sealed off Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc offices in the state for disconnecting electricity supply to the state secretariat.

Meanwhile, IBEDC accused the government of owing it the sum of N450 million while the state government alleged that IBEDC owes it the sum of N400 million.

The Chief Operating Officer of IBEDC, John Ayodele, who said this in a statement on Wednesday explained that the state government is claiming that the company is owing it revenue bills and personal income tax.

He stated that IBEDC had written several letters to the state and has held meetings with its officials to remind them of the need to pay the debt so that the company would not go under but they failed to pay.

Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, who spoke on behalf of the state government, said the offices were sealed because the company has been owing taxes totalling over N400 million.

Olatubosun insisted that the company has been owing the money in the last two years.

He added that the offices were sealed because of the outstanding revenues and not because the company disconnected the government secretariat.

But in a statement obtained, the Chief Operating Officer of IBEDC, Engineer John Ayodele, explained that the state government was owing the company a consumption outstanding of N450 million for over a period of three years.
