3rd Convocation: Chrisland University set to release 5 graduates with first-class

MONDAY- 6th December, 2021: Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, will be graduating five (5) First-class students during its 3rd Convocation Ceremony for year 2021 graduating students of the institution.

This was disclosed on Sunday by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola, at a press conference in preparation of the forth-coming 3rd Convocation Ceremony for year 2021 graduating students of the institution.

The briefing which held at the schools premises was an opportunity for the management to enlighten the press and public about the 3-day ceremony which will hold at the University’s Auditorium between the 7th and 9th December 2021.

Speaking at the conference, Prof. Chinedum Babalola, who disclosed that the institution which started in 2015 with just 7 students now boasts of over 800 students and will be graduating 44 students this 2021.

According to the VC, the first day of the event, Tuesday 7th will be for celebrating the life and times of Pastor Mrs Emily Imoukhuede who was a member of the board of trustee of the University and friend of the founder of the institution, High Chief Winifred Awosika OON.

The graduands will have a special dinner occasion later in the day to celebrate the achievements of the students. There will also be a talk to be delivered by Co-founder Ace Foundation, Mrs Chinwe Chiefo Ejiofobiri.

On Wednesday 8th the convocation ceremony will be kicked off with the commissioning of some completed buildings and naming of the female hostel in celebration of the life of a Nigerian Amazon, Late Pastor Mrs Emily AIG-Imokhuede for her contributions to the University and also feature cutting of the tape of the female hostel.

The convocation lecture will begin immediately afterwards with a lecture themed: “Making Education fit for purpose: The Trinity of knowledge Acquisition, Industry Collaboration and Government Policies” to be delivered by Mr Aigboje AIG- Imoukhuede,CON., Chairman Coronation Capital and Founder of AIG-Imukhuede Foundation.

The Convocation ceremony will also feature Awards of First Degrees and presentation of prices as well as recognition awards.

According to Prof. Babalola, The institution’s two Colleges of Art Management and Social Sciences and Natural and Applied Sciences will be graduating students in various programmes such as; Computer science, micro biology, political science, Banking and finance, Economics, International relations etc and will be rounding up the 3-day event with a thanksgiving service on Thursday 9th December.

Prof. Babalola also disclosed while responding to questions that of the institutions 44 graduating students, 5 students are graduating with a first class, 30 Second-class upper and 9 Second-class lower degrees.

She stated that the graduands would be allowed to invite only two guests to the ceremony hall, adding that all Covid-19 precautionary measures will be implemented.

  1. speaking at the briefing was the representative of the Gender studies unit of the University who stressed on the institutions role of ensuring that all students are grounded and have the universality of knowledge, as it ensures that students study other courses outside their specific area of study. This she claims is the university’s way of ensuring that students are well equipped and given basic entrepreneurship trainings so that they not have to rely on jobs provided by Government which are very scarce these days.

Chrisland University, Ogun State was established in 2015, and the University was granted full operational license to operate as a private university in Nigeria, in year 2019 by the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s National Universities Commission.

It began operation with two Colleges- College of Arts, Management, and Social Sciences, and College of Natural and Applied Sciences. The College of Basic Medical Sciences became the third college in 2019, while College of Law is upcoming.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Mrs. Chinedum Peace Babalola, FAS, Spearheaded the full accreditation of nine (9) programmes (Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, Criminology & Security Studies, Psychology, Computer Science, Political Science, Microbiology and Biochemistry) presented for the 2018 NUC Accreditation. Three programmes (Mass Communication, Banking and Finance, and International Relations) which were presented for NUC accreditation in 2021 got full accreditation also in 2021.
