Sports ministry redeem cash pledges to Tokyo 2020 Paralympics medal winners

Thursday 4th Nov. 2021:Nigeria’s Paralympics athletes who excelled at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games,have received the financial rewards promised them by the Minister of Sports,Sunday Dare.
Nigeria featured 22 athletes in four events at the Games.
 CEOAFRICA reports that the athletes who won gold were rewarded with $10,000 each, while those who won silver and bronze medals got $8,000 and $7,000 respectively.
“The athletes have been receiving the funds promised them by the minister and I’m told that the gold medallists got $10,000,” a top ministry official disclosed.
Team Nigeria won a total of 10 medals – four gold, one silver and five bronze medals at the Games.
Lucy Ejike captain of the team at the Games also confirmed that they had been paid.
“I can confirm that the sports minister Sunday Dare has fulfilled his promise to the athletes to the Tokyo Paralympics,” Ejike, who won bronze in women’s powerlifting, said.
“It was delayed because it passed through some processes, but I’m happy I received my alert Tuesday morning.”
The athletes took part in powerlifting, para-athletics, para-table tennis and para-rowing in Tokyo.
