SUNDAY, 24th October, 2021: Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni has stated today that the deadly blast that occurred in Kampala on Saturday appears to be an act of terrorism.
He said this via a tweet. He tweeted, "It seems to be a terrorist act. The information I have is that three people came and left a package in kaveera [plastic bag] which later on exploded."
According to report gathered, he stated that the explosion that occurred in its capital killed one person. although the Uganda Police Chief Political Commissar, Asan Kasingye, said that two people were killed in the explosion.
TV station NTV also reported that at least seven people were injured.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Videos shared on social media showed panicked and confused revelers illuminated by blue police lights.
Bomb blasts in the East African country are rare. Kampala suffered a major attack by Somalia’s al Shabaab in 2010 that killed dozens.
The group said it had attacked Uganda as a punishment for its deployment of troops in Somalia.
