Oyo Govt. promotes over 16,500 public primary school teachers

THURSDAY, 21st October, 2021: The Oyo State Government has on Wednesday released the promotion list of over 16,500 public primary school teachers across the 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
CEOAFRICA gathered that this development was disclosed by the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Nureni Adeniran during a symbolic presentation of the letters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
During the presentation, Dr. Adeniran charged teachers to redouble their efforts, adding that the state government was committed and passionate about their welfare.
Speaking about the promotion at the venue of the event, Dr. Adeniran commended the foresight of the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration and his political will to transform the education sector in the state.
He added that the teachers in the state had spent some years without their due promotion before the intervention of the present administration, where the teachers were promoted based on the instructions of Gov. Seyi Makinde. He also affirmed that the promotion exercise was part of the efforts of the present government to boost education in the State.
He was quoted to have said, “When Governor Makinde assumed office, he promised to give priority to education and today, we have adopted measures to improve the standard of education in the state.”
"Today, this Government has approved and commenced distribution of promotion letters to over 16,500 public primary teachers in the State".
"The welfare of teachers is taken very seriously by the Gov. Seyi Makinde-led administration, salaries of teachers are paid as at when due.
Speaking further, he noted that the Government was aware that recruitment of teachers would address the problems of inadequate manpower in the basic education sub-sector and promote teaching and learning, and he urged stakeholders to exercise more patience.
He stressed that the Oyo State Government were ensuring all hands were on deck in ensuring the employment of more primary school teachers with professional teaching qualification, based on merit.
In their remarks at the event, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, (NUT) Oyo State chapter, Comrade Toju Adedoyin; and the Chairman, Association of Primary School Head-teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Comrade Kunle Adedeji commended the State Government for the promotion of teachers in the State.
They added that the promotion would boost the morale of teachers, which will in turn promote teaching and learning activities in the state.
