HARVARD UNIVERSITY APPOINTS CHRISLAND VC AS SPECIAL ADVISER

Harvard University has appointed the Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola as one of the special Advisers to the University on School of Public Health. Chinedu Peace Babalola is a Nigerian Professor of Pharmaceutical chemistry and Pharmacokinetics, she is the first female Professor of Pharmacy in the University of Ibadan.

The appointment was made known through a letter of invitation sent to her recently to join the “Advisory committee for the rethinking malaria” as this will enable her contribute her knowledge as an active and engage member of global health community.

The African Laurette and now member of the Advisory Committee of the Apex University has not only set the engine running since her appointment but also leaving no stones unturned in her bid to champion the race against malaria and its dangers to public health

Since her appointment, the Erudite Professor started working on the “Rethinking Malaria Strategy in the context of Covid-19. She believes that the covid-19 pandemic has created new challenges for both human and financial resources and the delivery of essential malaria services therefore there is the need to rethink strategic approach to malaria eradication with a focus on the perspective of those at the frontlines.

Prof. Babalola’s research has been focused on ethics of human research, pharmacogenetics, clinical trials, drug interaction PK/PD, and non-communicable disease (Sickle Cell Disease and Cancer). She developed a novel that led to the elucidation of the pharmacokinetics of quinine in Africans and formed the basis of dose optimization in malaria patents. She is one of the scientists that reported the first pharmacogenetic study in healthy and sickle cell patients in Nigerians with proguanil as a probe. From 2002 till date, she has been an adjunct Researcher at the Institute of Advanced Medical Research and Training Archived 2020-10-30 at the Wayback Machine (IAMRAT) under Genetic & Bioethics Research Unit; College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. A unit she also headed from 2010–2012.
