Monday- 26th July, 2021: The former governor of Anambra state, Chukwuemeka Ezeife is currently in court for the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The trial of the IPOB leader is scheduled to resume on Monday after he jumped bail and fled the country in 2017.

He was rearrested in a foreign country in June and extradited to Nigeria to face trial.

Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), had said the IPOB leader was “intercepted through the collaborative efforts of Nigerian intelligence and security services”.

The IPOB leader is standing trial for treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society and publication of defamatory matters, among others.

Since he was rearrested, Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

If Kanu is found guilty, he risks spending a lifetime in jail or worse, death!

For the offence of treason/treasonable felony, section 37 and section 41 of the Criminal Code prescribes either life imprisonment or a death sentence.
