UK sanctions Equatorial Guinea Vice-President

Thursday- 22nd July, 2021: Britain has placed an asset freeze and travel ban on the vice-president of Equatorial Guinea and four others it accuses of serious corruption.

Teodoro Obiang Mangue is accused of misappropriating state finances to fund a lavish lifestyle that saw him buy mansions, a private jet and Michael Jackson memorabilia.

His father has ruled Equatorial Guinea for more than 40 years.

Others sanctioned are Kudakwashe Regimond Tagwirei, a Zimbabwean businessman with close links to the government, a former Iraqi politician and two Venezuelans.
