Tuesday, 22nd June 2021: President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday approved the composition of the Federal Government’s team to engage with Twitter over the recent suspension of its operations in Nigeria.

Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who made this known in Abuja said the Federal Government’s team comprises of members of the Federal Executive Council and he is to lead the team.

The Federal Government’s team also comprises the Attorney-General of the Federation and Honourable Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN); Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Patami; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geofrey Onyema; Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN; Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN as well as other relevant government agencies.

Following the indefinite suspension of its operations in Nigeria, for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence, Twitter wrote to President Buhari seeking to engage with the Federal Government over the suspension, with a view to charting a path forward.

The founder of Twitter had early last week written to the Nigerian government seeking for an engagement with the government on issues regarding the suspension of its operation in Nigeria on June 4 2021.
