A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, yesterday, ordered that the traditional ruler of Rumueprikom Community, in Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers State, Eze Anthony Owabie, be remanded in prison custody for illegal possession of firearms.

Owabie, who was arraigned before Justice Uche Agomuo, for illegal possession of firearms, was denied bail by the court, after the officer-in-charge of the legal department of the Rivers State Police Command, Mr. Paul Idenyenmin, opposed his bail application.

On September 8, 2014, when the matter came up first in a vacation court, it was adjourned till yesterday, for hearing and plea, following the failure of the police to produce the accused in court.

Yesterday, the accused person pleaded not guilty, after the charge had been read to him.

In his opposition to the bail application, Idenyenmin told the court that the summons was served to him while in court by the counsel to the respondent, Emenike Ebete.

After listening to the arguments of both counsels, Agomuo told the respondent’s lawyer that Justice is “a three-way traffic. It is justice for you; Justice for him and justice for the court. You cannot coarse him (O/C Legal), having served him [the papers] this morning in court”.

The judge adjourned the matter till October 8, 2014, for hearing on bail application, ordering that the accused person be remanded in the Port Harcourt Maximum Prison.

Owabie was arrested and detained on August 13, 2014 by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly shooting his son with a single-barrelled gun at their residence in Wimpey Junction, Obio/Akpor local government area of the state.
