Bandits attack 3 LGAs in Niger, abduct dozens of students

Monday, 31 May 2021: Armed bandits have attacked three local government areas in Niger state, abducting dozens of Islamiyya students in Tegina community in Rafi LGA.

Apart from kidnapping an unconfirmed number of Islamiyya students, they also abducted teachers from Salihu Tanko Islamic School alongside some passengers in a vehicle travelling to Minna.

Reports also have it that the gunmen gone away with about 70 motorcycles and attacked 17 communities in Wushishi Local Government Area where they shot several people while some women and children drowned as they tried to escape across River Kaduna.

More than 10 people are reported to be receiving treatment at the Wushishi General Hospital.

Search is still ongoing for missing persons from Babako, Tashan Girgi, Kwakwagi, Fakara, Ndiga, Buzu, Akare, Kala Kala, Agwa, Anguwan Gizo, Tsamiya and other neighbouring villages attacked by the bandits.

Niger State Governor Abubakar Bello, lamented the rising spate of attacks by bandis in the state, calling in the federal authority to come to their aid.

According to him, “The situation has reached crisis level. In fact, it’s a war situation that we have to confront without further delay.”
